Relationship Help | Aiming For A Heart-To-Heart (Emotional) Communication

18_large2Dear Ken & Nancy,

I’ve been meeting (by way of telecon) with my brothers and dad every week. We’ve been doing this for over two years now. We’ve all read your book, Discovering the Mind of a Woman, so now we are going through the ‘Discovering the Mind of a Woman’ workbook.

My younger brother just got married a year ago. Well, last week, I was encouraging my brothers and my dad to fill out the “Event Cards” (where husband’s write down their emotions and try to understand what God is trying to teach them through their emotions) and he told me what his wife said, and it was so profound that I asked him if he would find out if I could share it with you all. She did give him permission.

Her words were, “Your thoughts are all over the place, however, your emotions are right on the surface and apparent to me. But your heart (where your emotions originate) is way down deep in there, so deep and so protected by so many layers, that when you do let me in there it is like a special moment of clarity and communion between us that is so wonderful, it is almost like making love.”

I told the guys that she hit the nail on the head; that what she described, is exactly what we as men should be aiming for in our heart-to-heart (emotional) communication with our wives.

I want to thank you all for the impact you’ve had on Cheryl and I, and consequently, on my dad, my brothers, and my brother-in-law.

At the end of our conversation today, my brother said, “I can’t put a value on this study, that we do each Saturday and how much it has influenced not just our marriage, but my whole life… in ways that I can’t even begin to describe.”

Thanks.
