The Importance of Communication in a Relationship

I’m not talking about simply exchanging words. Yes, I know there are people who don’t talk at all and some who never stop talking.

But there are two levels wherein human being are supposed to utilize communication: They are,  employing the mind and employing the human spirit.

To prove how uncommon it is to employ the human spirit when it comes to communicating, even the dictionaries definitions do not include employing the human spirit. It does cover the mental aspect pretty well: “the imparting or interchange of thoughts, opinions, or information by speech, writing, or signs.

However, the deepest level of communication takes place at the spirit-to-spirit level. That ability will include, achieving a Spirit-to-spirit level with God and achieving a spirit-to-spirit level between married couples.

That oneness means that I can understand and communicate with my wife at her deepest, most highly emotional, heart/spirit, level―and she with me, at that same level. We know, and can operate with each other, at the deepest level possible between two human beings.

Here’s an example of a failure to communicate at a spirit-to-spirit level that is causing so many problems between husbands and wives. Sex should be the culmination of a spirit-to-spirit relationship. But that’s not the case for most men! For most men, it is purely physical. However, most women anticipate (whether they know how to express it this way or not), that it will be a heart-to-heart experience―a spirit-to-spirit experience.

But that means neither men or women are experiencing the most meaningful relationship with each other that God intended―if they do not know how to employ this deepest form of communication.
