Psalm 27:13-14 “Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living. Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.”
Do you ever feel like you have waited for a very long time to see the Lord’s goodness in a specific area in your life? I struggle with a few myself. I try so diligently to be patient, brave and courageous; yet still the situation seems impossible.
I read this verse a few days ago, and have meditated on it since. In the beginning of the chapter it is clear that David is having his struggles with enemies. He feels a whole host of emotions that he lists: fear, confidence, searching, a desire to be safe, justice, joy, there is a heart of desperation and pleading in his prayer, humbleness in his asking for God to teach him, and feelings of being falsely accused. Then we come to these two verses (13-14).
We, like David, also go through a host of emotions daily. Emotions that go from one extreme to the other. I love how David just sits down and opens up that heart to God. A wife desires that her husband would open up his heart to her in this same fashion. Of course, she wants him to open his heart like this to God; but she also would like to be included! It is what creates that oneness that she desires. She also would love to be able to come to her husband and share with him in the same way.
The ability to go to our Heavenly Father, share our most intimate heart thoughts with Him, and know that He hears us gives us amazing confidence. He does show us His goodness…every day. Sometimes it does not look like the goodness we would like to see; however, we can find His goodness if we look for it. The lessons that we learn in identifying our emotions and what we can learn from them to help us identify with Christ and to others…is goodness! Leaning on God and building a stronger relationship with our Father…is goodness! In verse 14, we even see that waiting on the Lord includes being strong and taking heart and waiting for Him. Building that faith in Him does give us confidence and that is His goodness.
