Have you ever heard this song?
Who am I that you are mindful of me
That you hear me, when I call
Is it true that you are thinking of me
How you love me, it’s amazing (Who am I Lord)
I am a friend of God
I am a friend of God
I am a friend of God
He calls me friend
God Almighty
Lord of Glory
You have called me friend
Doesn’t that just bring tears to your eyes that God even calls us friend? We are so unworthy. And, we are really not a very good friend to Him. We should ask ourselves, “How would I like to have a friend in the way that I am a friend to God?” Pretty convicting, huh! Think of what things we like in our friends; to talk, go places, confide in each other, console one another, enjoy each other, look forward to being together, etc.
There are days that we forget to read our Bible. Days that we pray lamely…quickly, selfishly, ritually, you get the picture…days we rush through our quiet time…we don’t always treat Him like a friend!
How would it be if our goal this year was to live life purposely as a true friend of God? In order to do that, we MUST develop a purposed friendship with God, or our lives will end up naturally being “on purpose for ourselves”. I do not want that, do you?
Ps. 57:2 I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills (His purpose) for me.
Ps. 19:21 Many are the plans in (insert your name) heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.
Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him (his friends!) who have been called according to His purpose.
