I think daily devotions are as important to our walk with God as breakfast is to our digestive system. During the night, while sleeping, our digestive system has been digesting all the food we put in it. When we wake up, we need to replenish the supply so we can face life’s challenges. This is the same with our daily devotion with God… If we don’t replenish our supply of God’s Word, we will not be prepared for the day’s challenges.
Another illustration is, if we don’t drink enough water we will dehydrate and get sick; which is exactly how God intended us to be spiritually. Without spending time with the Lord daily, our walk with Him will wither away.
Isaiah 30:20-21 says,
“Although the Lord has given you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, He, your Teacher will no longer hide Himself, but your eyes will behold your Teacher. And your ears will hear a word behind you, this is the way, walk in it, whenever you turn to the right or to the left.”
Without food you will go hungry through the day. Without water you will go thirsty through the day. Without a daily devotion you will miss God’s direction through the day.
