Daily Devotional | Does the Peace of Christ Rule in Your Heart?

The_First_Thanksgiving_cph.3g04961Colossians 3:15-17 “And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

Thanksgiving: This is the time of year we gather together with family, reflect on the year and give thanks to God. When we reflect, is there a thread in your heart that really allows “the peace of Christ rule in your hearts”?

The peace comes from the following verses; allowing the Word of Christ to dwell in us richly. We can only do this if we are meditating in God’s Word. In the passage, we see a group of believers who gather together and read God’s Word together. Then they do the hard part. They teach and admonish one another; but they do it in all wisdom because it is centered in God’s Word. So often we hold so many things inside and then when we decide to open our mouths to “share” it is not done in all wisdom.

In these verses we see a beautiful picture of fellowship. They are singing the psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. In return, we see their hearts full of thankfulness to the One they are singing to. There is encouragement to continue the actions of “whatever you do” to do EVERYTHING in the name of Jesus…giving thanks to God the Father.
